NAU’s 13-year head coach Jerome Souers has been offered a three-year contract extension, which if accepted will retain his services through Dec. 31, 2013. The contract has to pass through the Arizona Board of Regents, which will make its ruling soon on the matter.

The longest tenured coach in the Big Sky is coming off a 6–5 season, which fell short of expectations, and has an overall record of 72–75 at NAU.

Aside from the familiarity of Souers within the program, academic incentives can push his annual earnings of $105,000 to $130,000, contingent on the class work of student athletes.

One positive in the Souers era is the academic performance of his athletes during the 2008-09 season. The cumulative GPA of the Jacks in 2009-10 was 2.76.

One hundred athletes have been named to All-Big Sky teams in the Souers era, with 36 All-Americans and 37 first-team selections.
