Volleyball plays Northern Colorado in last game
NAU volleyball plays Big Sky Conference-leader Northern Colorado for the final match of the season. The game will begin Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Rolle Activity Center.
NAU (10-15, 6-9 BSC) enters the match sixth in the conference after losing 0-3 to Portland State and beating Eastern Washington 3-2. The Bears (22-6, 13-2 BSC) are 6-3 on the road this season and come to Lumberjack country off a loss last week.
The NAU women showed improved play in their last match with a hitting percentage of .23. Freshman middle backer Niki Small said the win over Eastern Washington proves the team is ready to take on Northern Colorado.
“We came out tonight with a lot of confidence, and that really helped,” she said. “And now that we’ve won, it just shows that when we play Northern Colorado, if we have confidence, it will factor into that game. We are working hard, and we know it’s our last game of the season. We’re going to put it all out there.”
Despite the confidence-boosting win, sophomore outside hitter Lexi Sullivan said the team is anxious, but she believes they can take on the Bears.
“We are a little nervous, but we’ll get it out of our system,” she said. “We’re ready to beat them. Everyone wants an upset all the time. I think after our last win, we’re ready to pull off an upset.”
Senior middle back Chelsea Cheeley said she agrees.
“Our last win proves we can take on Northern Colorado,” she said. “We know that we can win.”
The final game will be an end to a struggling season, but the Lumberjacks are hoping to end the season strong.
“We have a lot of heart and passion, and we want this win no matter what,” Small said.
