Former NAU running back Alex Henderson signed a free-agent deal with the St. Louis Rams April 24. Henderson will report to the team’s minicamp this upcoming weekend. The three-time All-Big Sky selection will kick off his professional career by vying to be the backup for pro-bowler Steven Jackson. Henderson left NAU as the team’s second-leading rusher for a career with 3,462 yards and is also second in rushing attempts with 677.

On the hardwood, junior men’s basketball player Cameron Jones declared for the 2010 NBA draft, but he will not sign an agent, allowing him to come back to NAU if he withdraws his name by the May 8 deadline.

The 6-foot-4-inch guard is a two-time All-Big Sky selection, earning unanimous selection to the 2010 All-Big Sky first team. The Los Angeles native scored 1,003 career points, making him the 25th player in school history with at least 1,000 points.

“My goal is to get my name out and see if any teams are interested,” Jones said. “It is mostly setting me up for life after my senior year of college basketball. Putting my name in will get my name out there and the scouts will be looking for me next year. I want to help my opportunity after college and my senior season.”
