Going in as the No. 5 seed in the Big Sky Conference tournament, the NAU men’s basketball team could not pull off the upset, falling to the No. 4 Montana Grizzlies 81-60 at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula, Mont.
Junior guard Cameron Jones scored 21 points, passing the 1,000 point mark for his career while senior forward Nick Larson, playing in what turned out to be his final game, added 11 points. The Lumberjack bench only mustered a total of 18 points led by junior forward DeAngelo Jones’ nine points.
For the game, the Jacks shot 48 percent from the field on 26-54 shooting but shot a mere 23 percent from 3-point range (3-13). NAU was also defeated on the boards, hauling down 26 in comparison to the 37 that UM pulled down, including a 12-4 edge on the offensive glass. While the Grizzlies shot 49 percent from the field, they did quite a bit of their damage from beyond the arc, shooting 53 percent from range.
“This is what the post-season is,” said head coach Mike Adras. “It’s very unkind.”
With the loss, the Lumberjacks wrap up their season with a 14-14 overall record and an 8-9 mark in conference play.
“We’re going to do some things this off-season that I think are going to get us ready for next year,” Adras said.
