Despite a strong second half rally that forced overtime, the NAU men’s basketball team could not muster enough in the extra time, falling to the Northern Colorado Bears by a score of 70-63 in Greeley, Colo. With the loss, the Lumberjacks failed to avenge a 75-66 loss to UNC earlier in the season.

Down 41-30 with 14:26 left in the contest, NAU put on a surge, going on a 15-2 run in a 5:15 span to take the lead at 45-43. The rest of the tilt was a back and forth affair, with the Lumberjacks having a chance for the win at the buzzer, but Gabe Rogers missed a 3-pointer and the match went into the extra frame.

For the game, the Jacks shot 41 percent from the field but only connected on two of their 14 attempts from 3-point range. Meanwhile, the NAU defense allowed UNC to shoot 7-19 from beyond the arc and also committed more fouls than the Bears which translated to 10 more made attempts from the stripe for UNC.

Cameron Jones led the way for the Lumberjacks, scoring 17 points and playing 44 of the possible 45 minutes of the game. Shane Johannsen added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Jacks.

The next game for NAU is a road contest at Weber State on Feb. 12. WSU defeated the Lumberjacks 87-62 on Jan. 9 in Flagstaff. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:05 Arizona time.
