The NAU women’s basketball team dropped its fifth consecutive game tonight with a 74-56 loss at the hands of Portland State in Portland, Ore.
After a back and forth affair through the first nine minutes of the game, freshman guard Amy Patton put the Lumberjacks ahead 16-15 with a three-pointer with 10:46 to go in the first half.
But the Jacks could only muster one more field goal — a three-pointer by junior forward Jenna Galloway at the 7:55 mark — throughout the rest of the first half as the Vikings closed the half with 18-4 run.
The second half proved to be no different for either team as the Jacks continued to struggle offensively and the Vikings extended their 13-point halftime lead to as many as 23 as they cruised to a victory.
The Lumberjacks were plagued by turnovers, committing 19 in the game and 13 coming in the decisive first half. They were also outshot 38.3 percent to the Vikings’ 50 percent from the field and converted only 13 of 21 attempts from the free-throw line.
Patton tallied her conference-leading tenth double-double of the season with team-highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds, but was the only Jack in double-figures.
The Jacks will have a short turnaround as they look to snap their losing streak tomorrow night against Eastern Washington in Cheney, Wash. The Eagles defeated the Jacks 66-54 Jan. 14 at home.
