Following the road victory against Eastern Washington, the Northern Arizona men’s basketball team duplicated the feat, upsetting Portland State by a score of 93-86 at the Peter W. Stott Center in Portland, Oregon.

“It was a tremendous effort by our guys,” said head coach Mike Adras. “They just listened to what we told them to do.”

The Lumberjacks led 39-28 at halftime, aided by 68 percent shooting, going 17 of 25 from the floor, including three of four from beyond the arc. Junior guard Cameron Jones led the Jacks in the first half, scoring 14 points on six of 10 shooting. Shane Johannsen added nine points in the first half on a perfect four-of-four shooting.

“It feels good to get that win,” Johannsen said. “Its something that we definitely needed.”

Despite leading by 20 at one time, the Vikings cut the lead down to five at 89-84 with 16 seconds left in the game. However, Jones and Eric Platt each sank two free throws to put the game away.

For the game, the only NAU player that didn’t score was Nick Larson, but “he did make some key plays down the stretch” Adras said.

Next game for the Lumberjacks is at home against Sacramento State on Jan. 24. Tipoff is slated for 1:05 PM.
