• NAU cross country had a strong showing at the Rocky Mountain Regional meet last Saturday. The Lumberjack men finished second and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
The women received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship after their third-place finish. The Lumberjacks are the only team from the Big Sky to have a squad compete at the NCAA meet and the only team in the Rocky Mountain Region to have both its men’s and women’s teams on the field.
• The NAU women’s basketball team embarked on their first road trip of the season. The Jacks did not fare so well, as they lost to Memphis Friday night 64-47. Sophomore Lauren Hoisington led the Jacks with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
The Lumberjacks then fell to Arkansas State Sunday afternoon 71-40. The Jacks committed 14 turnovers in the first half. Junior guard Janelle Matthews led NAU in that contest with 11 points. The Lumberjacks will be on the road Wednesday at Utah State before opening their home season with Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon.
• The NAU swim and dive team defeated fellow WAC team Idaho over the weekend 146-95. However, the Jacks fell the next day to Washington State. The Cougars placed first in all 11 events during the meet.
NAU Junior swimmer Rachel Foe and sophomore diver Taryn Harris were named co-WAC Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week.
