Last Friday, just like millions of Americans, I partook in a Black Friday proverbial treasure hunt. This year, I had a particular goal in mind: to find, get a deal on and purchase a PlayStation 3. My journey began at Walmart at midnight. In just a simple venture to grab a few discounted games, I was shoved, pushed and nearly tackled over items I wasn’t even trying to purchase. As the clock struck 12:01 a.m., it was like a starting gun went off as what seemed like hundreds of shopping carts brigaded down the Walmart aisles. But my espionage didn’t end there. After waking up at the ridiculous hour of 5 a.m., my hopes of nudging inside Best Buy were crushed as I drove past a half-mile line wrapping around the store. To my chagrin, Target wasn’t much better. Although I was able to slip inside, crowds and competitive line finagling scared me away. With my PS3 dreams nearly dead, I was fortunate enough to grab a holiday bundle pack at Gamestop. It’s sick to see the greed that takes place on such a day, but nonetheless amazing to think I saved $80 this holiday.
