CANDIDATES FOR SENATE:

Name: Shannon Boruch

Grade: Sophomore

Major: Undeclared

Position Seeking: Senator

What are your goals for ASNAU?

Have your voices been heard? Do you want your voice to be represented within the city or even state? If reelected, I plan to work on two major issues:

Continuing to stand for your voice, by listening to and bringing your concerns to politicians, university representatives and anyone who is capable of handling what I bring to them.

Continuing my work with transparency.  This includes informing you about ASNAU, what we do, why we exist and what we can do for you and your club. I will be 100 percent open about how your money is being spent and why.  Lastly, I’ll be keeping ASNAU up to date about what is going on around campus.  In short, I want to continue building an open dialog between the students and the senate!

Know that your voice is heard by reelecting me as a senator!

My goals as a senator are to represent the student body. To do this, I plan on appropriating funding to different clubs, organizations and individuals needing help to fund various activities. Grade: Sophomore

Major: Philosophy, Politics and Law

Position Seeking: Senator

What are your goals for ASNAU?

  1. Transparency: I will do everything in my power to make sure all students have the opportunity to know what is going on. I will make myself available for meetings and personal contacts by disclosing my phone number and email address. Finally, I will create an anonymous drop box for students to leave ideas, complaints and suggestions for ASNAU and me personally.
  2. Visibility: Many events at the school, state and national level that affect the students of NAU simply go unnoticed. I will raise awareness of these overlooked events and inform the student population of how they can support or oppose them.
  3. Fiscal responsibility: Many students are upset with the amount of money the current senate spends on things that do not support the students of NAU as a whole. As senator, I will personally analyze every petition for funding and make sure our money is being spent well.

Name: Ryan Cook

Grade: Sophomore

Major: Business Management

Position Seeking: Senator

What are your goals for ASNAU?

I want to make sure the student body knows where their $23 fee is going and will distribute the funds campus organizations and clubs need. Most people are unaware the $23 fee funds things like free legal aid, extended library hours, scholarships, t-shirts, volunteer opportunities, concerts and the carnival. I want to be sure every student knows these services are available to him or her.

What are your goals for ASNAU?

Hello there! The reason why I am running for ASNAU Senate is because I want to represent students here at NAU and have them be informed of what ASNAU can provide; not only just the benefits, but also the activities of ASNAU. This ties into another goal of having more transparency in ASNAU; by this, I mean students knowing about what is going inside of ASNAU. Finally, I also want to promote new, current clubs and organizations because I feel involvement in campus activities creates strong campus involvement and positive retention rates; clubs are also a great way to meet new people. Overall, I want to help my fellow students, and I feel that being a Senator is a great way to achieve this.

What are your goals for ASNAU?

As an ASNAU Senator, I seek tangible and realistic change in our school. My main goal will be to achieve a more cohesive communication between ASNAU and student clubs such as Greek Life, Sports Teams and Special Interest clubs. Another goal I would strive to attain during my term as an ASNAU Senator is the implementation of a shuttle service from an on-campus location to popular off-campus destinations such as Target and the movie theater. This advancement in student transportation is a plausible idea that would greatly benefit many students on campus. In closing, I want to describe my passion for NAU and the students in attendance. I am deeply invested in the betterment of our school and improving life on campus for my peers.

What are your goals for ASNAU?

I have a few goals in mind I would hope to implement if reelected. The first is to continue spreading the word to all NAU clubs and organizations about the funding that can be received from ASNAU. I also hope to restructure the process when receiving funding; reimbursement for clubs and organizations should be quick and simple. Lastly, I hope to better inform students of everything ASNAU provides to campus. An informed and involved NAU campus is my ultimate goal. If I were reelected into senate, I would continue to fight for the voice of NAU students and ensure each student is heard equally.

CANDIDATES FOR VICE-PRESIDENT OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Name: Shayla Woodhouse

Grade: Junior

Major: Environmental Engineering

Position: Vice President of Academic Affairs

What are your goals for ASNAU?

If elected as Vice President of Academic Affairs, I would like to create better transparency with clubs and organizations about their potential to apply for funding. I plan to achieve this by advertising ASNAU funding at club fairs, and strengthening the relationship between Senators and their respected clubs. With this, I would like to create a seamless process for club funding. Other goals I would like to accomplish in this position include highlighting a club of the week, creating fundraising opportunities for clubs and providing additional funds for clubs and organizations. As a member of the ASNAU executive team, I would like to ensure each and every ASNAU funded event and service be properly publicized to the entire student body.

What are your goals for ASNAU?

If elected, I want to make sure the student voice is heard. I want to hold a revote on the $23 fee to make sure where the money is going is where the students want it to be. Beyond that, I want to cut unnecessary spending to make sure the most money is brought back to the student body. I also plan on creating a Social Justice Chair in ASNAU to see no minority voice is ignored in ASNAU. Finally, I want to get ASNAU more involved with the student body and out to more events to make sure that we are constantly keeping contact with the students and hearing what they have to say, because in the end, our jobs are to see to it that the students are heard.
