FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities in northern Arizona continue their search for any snow-trapped hunters.
Gerry Blair of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office says crews were searching Friday for less than a handful of people as part of two rescue missions.
Meanwhile, crews are flying over the county’s nearly 19,000 square miles looking for any signs of distress. They’re asking hunters to stamp out warnings in the snow or flash mirrors if they’re in trouble.
Searchers have located more than 50 hunters as part of 24 rescue missions. But they were expecting more calls after the elk hunting season ended Thursday.
A powerful winter storm dumped up to 3 feet of snow in some areas, making roads impassable.
A less severe storm moved across northern Arizona on Friday.
