FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Property owners in Coconino County can expect to pay more. The board voted 4-1 Tuesday to raise property taxes in the northern Arizona county.

The hike allows the county to collect up to $5.1 million a year, or 18.5 percent more than the basic county property tax brings in annually.

The supervisors unanimously agreed that the county should raise funding in light of expected revenue cuts to the state and declines in their own tax revenues.

The four in support of the property tax hike felt it would raise twice as much as a new sales tax.

Supervisor Mandy Metzger opposed the hike saying there was too little public input to pass such a tax during a recession.
