A new campus club, the Repeal Coalition, demands to repeal laws that discriminate against undocumented individuals.

The Coalition to Repeal Arizona’s Anti-Immigrant Legislation, also known as the Repeal Coalition, is a small group of students and community members committed to repealing more than 55 laws that have been considered or passed by the Arizona State Legislature. The club is dedicated to making sure all human beings are guaranteed access to work, housing, health care, education, legal protection and other public benefits, regardless of if they are American citizens.

The Repeal Coalition seeks to get city councils throughout the state to pass a “Repeal Resolution.” The resolution urges the repeal of all anti-immigrant legislation, and is against allowing future discriminatory ordinances that deny basic rights to migrants. Along with pressuring local politicians, the Repeal Coalition wants to change the terms of the immigration debate in Arizona and, eventually, the nation.

Ashley Cooper, a junior philosophy major, was one of the people who started the Repeal Coalition. Cooper said the club informally began as a political sect of No More Deaths, an organization that asserts the right to provide humanitarian aid to migrants.

“A couple of professors came up with the idea and started a committee and (we) branched off into our own group,” Cooper said. “The initial idea was directly related to humanitarian aid, but we wanted the group to be more focused on the political aspect. The purpose of the club is to symbolically ask Flagstaff to repeal anti-immigrant laws.”

Cooper said the coalition aims to make Flagstaff a safe haven for undocumented citizens.

“There are over 55 legislation laws that degrade immigrants,” Cooper said. “We are now working on passing a Repeal Resolution and getting a petition to go along with it. We want to eventually take it to city hall.  We would like to have Flagstaff become a sanctuary city for immigrants.”

Katie Fahreneruch, a senior political science major, has been a core member of the coalition since its unofficial conception last year.

“We had a vision; we got together and started talking about starting the club,” Fahreneruch said. “I think it’s a really important club in that we’re seeking to change.”

The coalition meets weekly on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at the Taala Hooghan Infoshop on Fourth Street.

“We usually debrief over events or updates over previous weeks,” Cooper said. “We also go over planning for upcoming events that we’re working on. We suggest new ideas for things to do for the next meeting. There is not an official core group of members — every meeting is open — but Katie Fahreneruch and I would probably serve as the presidents.”

Joel Olsen, a political science professor and the Repeal Coalition advisor, is an active member of the organization.

“I support the Repeal Coalition,” Olsen said. “I think it’s an original and clever way to intervene and address the immigration issues we have in Arizona.”

The Repeal Coalition is hosting two upcoming events geared toward immigration work,  the first on Thursday, Sept. 25 and the second on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The first event will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Gardener Auditorium, featuring a speaker from the Repeal Coalition.

Later that night, Dan Horowitz Garcia, a community organizer with more than 20 years of experience with political movements, will speak about how to get the community involved in immigration activism.  The evening event will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the East Flagstaff Public Library.

On Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., a workshop will be held in Room 210 in the Social and Behavior Sciences Building, geared toward those who want to help create a petition.

“The speaking events are for those who are interested in learning more about the club and the workshop is for people who are very interested in helping our cause and creating the petition,” Cooper said.

Cooper said the club is trying to bring funds together for future events,  speakers and more community organizers.

It really doesn’t matter which President we have, when it comes to the illegal immigration issue. Both are looking for votes from the Hispanic groups, so they have compromised our sovereignty by trying to push through a path to citizenship for lawbreakers.

The worst of the two parties are the Democrat leadership however, with Pelosi leading the charge. Unknowingly behind closed doors they have gutted the border fence appropriations, so that their are wide open corridors were drugs, terrorist and millions of impoverished people can slip through. This is of course to slack the thirst of cheap labor for parasite employers.

Right now with our economy almost on the verge of collapse, the politicians have not revealed that to some extent illegal immigrants were allowed to get mortgages with just a IRS (TIN) number. This was a way to circumvent the fact, that they cannot be issued a legal citizen or resident Social Security number. Incorrigibles brokers fraudulently negotiated loans for homes with little or no cost in moving into a property. Today we have the largest bail out of giant mortgage firms, accelerated foreclosures as illegal alien families unable to pay the escalating mortgages walked away. By flooding the market with unqualified buyers, government bureaucracies have artificially stimulated housing demand, which caused home purchases to explode, leading to the unsustainable housing price bubble that has finally burst.

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.1258/pub_detail.asp Just about anyone can get a “stated income” loan provided one’s FICO SCORE is high enough. By lowering the scale enough, Uncle Sam has indeed brought diversity to house ownership. However, at a terrible cost?

Please contact your Senator through the Capitol Switchboard (202-224-3121) and ask him/her to pressure Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to allow a vote this week on H.R. 6633, the House-passed E-Verify reauthorization bill. The E-Verify program will die in November if Congress does not reauthorize it before Members leave for the election recess on Friday.

Rep. Tancredo Demands Safeguards in any Economic Bailout
    http://www.numbersusa.com/content/

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) has demanded that any bailout of the finance industry should include safeguards that prevent the bank or lender from recouping funds spawning from their own fraudulent or dishonest activities.

Tancredo also wants to ensure that taxpayers do not provide assistance to illegal aliens who have lost their homes and do not absorb any bad debts owed to financial institutions. He maintains that these protections are a “must” for any bailout package.

Rep. Tancredo also wants legislation passed that would require banks to verify the legality of potential home buyers to ensure that illegal aliens do not benefit from federally backed home loans.

NOTICE HOW THIS GROUP CALLS EVERYTHING “ANTI-IMMIGRANT” WHEN THEY MEAN “ANTI-ILLEGAL LAWBREAKERS”. THEY NEVER USE THE CORRECT TERM “ILLEGAL ALIENS” BECAUSE THEY WISH TO MISLEAD THE PUBLIC. MEXICO HAS A HIDDEN AGENDA CALLED “AZTLAN” (ALSO “LA RECONQUISTA”) WHERE THEY PLAN TO TAKE OVER THE SW BY POPULATING IT AND HAVING LOTS OF AMERICAN CITIZENS (XIV AMENDMENT WRONGLY INTERPRETED. EVEN IRELAND HAS CLARIFIED ITS LAWS TO MAKE SURE ONE OR BOTH PARENTS ARE IRISH BEFORE A CHILD IS DEEMED AN IRISH CITIZEN - WE NEED DESPERATELY TO DO THE SAME. WE ARE GIVING AWAY OUR BIRTHRIGHT TO PEOPLE WHO OWE THEIR ALLEGIANCE TO ANOTHER COUNTRY - 83% TO 95% ARE ALL MEXICANS. MEXICANS ARE TAUGHT FROM CHILDHOOD IN MEXICO TO HATE THIS COUNTRY - MANY, MANY MEXICANS HAVE TOLD ME THIS). THEY TELL THEIR CHILDREN WE STOLE THEIR LAND WHEN THEY ONLY OWNED THE SW FOR ALL OF 24 YRS. AFTER STEALING IT FROM SPAIN WHO OWNED IT FOR 300 YRS. WHO STOLE IT FROM THE AMERICAN INDIANS WHO HAD IT FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS. THE MEXICAN INDIANS WERE NEVER UP HERE (MAYANS AND AZTECS AND THEY PRACTICED HORRIBLE SACRIFICES WHERE THEY TORE THE HEARTS OUT OF YOUNG GIRLS WHILE STILL ALIVE. THEY WOULD TEAR THE LITTLE BOYS’ SKIN OFF SLOWLY AS THEY FELT THESE THINGS PLEASED THE GODS!). THE PEOPLE OF AZ HAVE FOUGHT LONG AND HARD TO GET THESE IMMIGRATION BILLS PASSED. THIS GROUP REALLY IS REALLY BEYOND IGNORANT!

Loans to illegals precipitated the Bailout.

A July report showed that in, 7, out of the, 10 metro areas, with the highest foreclosure rates, Hispanics represented between 33, and 50, percent of the population. Most of them illegal.

The amnesty-promoting National Council of La Raza and its Development Fund have received millions in federal funds to “counsel” their constituents on obtaining mortgages with little to no money down; the group almost succeeded in attaching a $10 million earmark for itself in one of the housing bills past this spring.

Insist on knowing how many of the foreclosed propertites were purchased by illegals.

Wow, I think the hatred and misinformation that some of the people posted here indicate just how much we need groups like the Repeal Coalition. For instance, blaming the current financial crisis on immigrants is the type of warped logic that blames the least powerful and leaves the most powerful people blameless, such as the bankers who took advantage of thousands of people. But here in Arizona, if anything goes bad based, we just blame it on the least defensible population. The level of hatred toward Latinos is incredible and intolerable.
