5. Coyotes, Suns, and winning. Oh, my! Two teams that few expected to make the playoffs have done just that — and are winning. One team is long beloved by the people of Phoenix; the other is a rising star. The Suns are no stranger to a winning tradition this decade, but have never been quite able to win that elusive championship. The Coyotes are the team that has never had any luck, and is finally just beginning to emerge as a power. All Phoenicians should be proud to have…

5 Things You Can Learn In 10 Minutes (Or Less)
5. Flagstaff resident by way of Phoenix looking for information about Tucson. I was born and raised in the northern Phoenix area (think northern Glendale), and I’m pretty familiar with Flagstaff after a year of living here. But, this summer I’ll be living in the city of Tucson with some friends, near the university. I’m not as familiar with the area, having only been to that city a couple of times. If any of you are familiar with Tucson and…

5. Now with twenty percent more precision! Order now! After a semester of running this blog, it suddenly occurred to me that the length of it was making it both a chore for my readers to read and a chore for me to write. I was also relatively certain that only an experienced lawyer (or a very inexperienced and quite terrible one) would have the speed-reading skills needed to properly scan the thing in under ten minutes, which…

5. “Apology accepted, Captain Needa.” Yeah, so last week I criticized Electronic Arts and Bioware for problems associated with this game and the ability to play it on non-HD televisions. However, after I got the chance to watch this game being played for a greater length of time, I realized that it’s quite a gem of a game and one I’ll certainly be looking to buy when I either get an HD television (not likely) or when the glitch is fixed (considerably more likely). So, hats off to Electronic Arts…

5. ‘Mass Effect’ on consumer confidence. Arguably the most anticipated video game to come out this year (I’m still holding out for Fallout: New Vegas to debut later, but I have a suspicion it will be delayed into early 2011), Mass Effect 2 is supposed to be a fun mixture of action and plot, spaceships and aliens. But, for many gamers, it’s only a big tease. Apparently, the game was built so that text in the game (which for those of you who have played the first Mass Effect know…

5. It came from the arctic. This past week, the whole state of Arizona got hammered by a series of three storms that dropped record amounts of snow in the northern part of the state and record amounts of rain in the, well, the everywhere else part of the state where there’s desert and it wouldn’t typically snow. The experts are saying that this is the second-worst snowstorm on record (the other being in 1967), and that it was caused by the el Nino effect (a weather phenomenon where the…

5. A return to an (un)healthy eating pattern. Ah, the wonders of the holiday break: homemade food every night, a cabinet full of snacks, and the parents ordering pizza. Back to reality, though, it’s really peculiar how our eating habits change in college. And how our families are perplexed that one can indeed eat after 10 at night. My father gave me the weirdest look when I made up some Easy Mac at 1:30 in the morning (it was a mix of utter confusion and sleepiness – it was 1:30…

5. Hobbits on the Moon, news story. The American Geophysical Union published a report that said when humanity eventually colonize the moon, we should do so by hiding in caves on it. Personally, I think this is a terrible idea, mainly because these lava tubes have no intergalactic real-estate value. We should be buying beachfront property on the Sea of Tranquility while lunar land is still a relative bargain and NASA is still able to pay it’s moon mortgage.
