Hawaii-native Jack Johnson brings listeners down memory lane with familiar acoustic tunes throughout his live CD/DVD set En Concert. This “greatest hits” ensemble eases through a set of Johnson’s most famous melodies. En Concert is a chronicle of various euphonies recorded during the singer’s 2008 Sleep Through The Static World Tour.
En Concert’s opener, “Belle,” is introduced with a heartfelt, roaring welcome from Johnson’s fans in Paris, France. As Johnson’s acoustics gently breeze over Cajun-influenced accordion renditions, he energizes the crowd with his French lyrics, paying tribute to his Parisian fans.
“If I Had Eyes,” performed at the Kokua Festival in Johnson’s homeland of Hawaii, demonstrates his perfection as a live performer. The tune flows through flawless arrangements of Johnson’s signature beach-folk acoustic guitar riffs complemented with cheery piano notes. “Bubbly Toes,” a fan favorite, was performed in San Francisco and livens up the audience with Johnson’s unique, poppy lyrics about a girl.
En Concert is a beautiful collaboration of live performances by Johnson. His followers and new listeners will be pleased with the flow of Johnson’s melodious acoustic sound that resonates immaculately throughout the album. En Concert is an impeccable expression of Johnson’s “dude” persona and laid-back approach to producing music.
